I’m spending a few days in San Diego with about 115 other Episcopal communicators this week. We’re doing some networking, sharing some best practices, and learning about resources to take back to our dioceses and congregations. I’ll provide some more thorough analyses and take-aways in the days to come. In the meantime, here are a few thoughts, tips and quotes that I’ve picked up in plenary sessions and workshops over the past day and a half.

  • “Anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can have their voice heard.” -Justin Wise, Keynote Speaker and former director of Monk Development, on the power of communications.
  • “Technology doesn’t move backwards. No society deindustrializes.” -Tina Fey, via Justin Wise
  • “If you preach the Gospel in all aspects with the exception of the issues which deal specifically with your time – you are not preaching the Gospel at all.” -Martin Luther, via Justin Wise
  • “Before developing a marketing plan, you have to be clear on your vision.” -The Rev. Jake Dell, Digital Marketing & Advertising Manager for the Episcopal Church

I’ll leave you with this glimpse of social media in 2013, part of a popular series by social media expert Erik Qualman. What do you think of some of the facts and figures in this video?
