lightstock_134571_medium_user_5219415Recently in the Episcopal communications world, a few folks have come up with a campaign for a Social Media Sunday on June 29, 2014. The goal of the campaign is to make the “Good News go viral,” and for the hashtag #Episcopal to trend on Twitter, Facebook and beyond.

It’s an interesting concept – and one full of potential for your congregations right here in Virginia. Here are a few of our own tips for how you might personalize Social Media Sunday to work in your own congregation.

  • Ask a few social media savvy folks to volunteer to lead post-worship workshops on how to create a Facebook profile, Twitter 101, or the ins-and-outs of Pinterest and Instagram.
  • Encourage worshipers to “check-in” at church when they arrive for worship.
  • Ask your parishioners to Tweet during the sermon.
  • Encourage a church selfie campaign on Facebook.
